What is Podcasting
Current Mood : Whimsical
Currently listening To: Poor Thing - Sweeney Todd
There's roughly an hour or so before the 2nd booklet of the OSSLT starts. I'm currently camping out in one of the empty classroom enjoying the air condition all by myself with the company of two friends. =)
So nice to have our own privacy and not have to cramp with the other students in the library hahahahhahha.
So, with nothing better to do I went surfing online to find out more about podcasting, since we now have that as part of our blog tasks. Even though I have heard about it constantly and think I sort of know what it is, I thought to play it safe I should know exactly what I'm in for.
The definition that I managed to gather is that podcasting is akin to online broadcast media, which is usually audio but lately that had expanded to videos as well, which just about anyone can create.
I don't think I really got what the hullabaloo about podcasting was and why it was hugely popular, till I scrolled down wikipedia.org and read this excerpt:
Though podcasters' web sites may also offer direct download or streaming of their content, a podcast is distinguished from other digital media formats by its ability to be syndicated, subscribed to, and downloaded automatically when new content is added, using an aggregator or feed reader capable of reading feed formats such as RSS or Atom.
Which was just brilliant cause now I totally don't understand whats going on. I relatively know what Podcast is now and after some research I understand it's usability... but what on earth is RSS.... and Atom?
Sigh.
I'm going home and piling up the homework tonight. There is, I believe, a heck load of reading to do before I can even publish one podcast. Sometimes technology can be such a pain.
Think I understand how an ancient struggles with the terminologies of tech nowadays. I don't get it myself.
I need an ice-pack.
[Edit] This post was only posted on Sunday, and not Thursday due to personal reasons and a very misbehaving net connection.
