iPhone
welcome back!
I'm just about to rant on about the iPhone.
At first I thought it was the coolest thing in the world. And I wanted one. I even thought Steve Job was the coolest man on earth. I tried to save up to purchase one when it's officially released in Asia. Alas, what I finally realized after having the chance to lay my hands on it broke my heart.
According to Steve Job, he claimed the phone was three devices in one: an iPod, a phone and an "internet communications device". Using Job's loose definition of what constitutes a separate device, technically my pc can be considered 8 devices in one as well.
my pc can be considered as
1. calculator
2. clock
3. an "internet communications device"
4. a phone (skype)
5. media storage device
6. video player
7. word processor
8. an "iPod"
Not very impressive now huh.....
Do you know how awesomely horrifically difficult it is to sms or email with iPhone? Even with a new program they call "smart text", the text spellings rarely come out right. Why? Cause the average human being has fingers larger than the keypads! It took me a good 10 minutes on a pal's iPhone to type the letter 'k' without having the letter 'j' pop up. Ohhhh...and no 3G. Why no 3G?
Only thing it has is a touch screen... which is pretty overdone by now...what's with with LG Prada, Samsung Armani, and tons of china iPhone clones. It's like the 360 camera thing in Matrix. Sure, it is pretty cool how the touch screen interface works - at first-. How with a flick of a finger you could manipulate your iPhone efficiently.
However cool it is, touch screen isn't good anyway. Especially Apple ones. Lets not forget how often the owners will have to wipe the screen. It gets smudges and fingerprints all over so very easily and then your screen is blurry again. Once the screen is broken, you can't do anything with it until you replace the screen. BUT OH WAIT. You can't fix the broken screen. You have to exchange it with Apple. Then they will give you a new one instead. (Until they find out that you unlocked it by hacking it and THEN they will proceed to boot you out). Why does Apple have to make things so complicated? Other phones don't need verifications as to whether its an original or AP set to fix the screen.
Mind you, it's not just the iPhone we're talking about here. It's every gadget that they produce. Yes. I am being upset here because of all the emotional trauma I had to go through with my iPod previously. Not to mention my iTunes is giving me such a hard time now. =/
Apple's just a pain because they don't allow 3rd party software without their verification.
One thing I'd admit though, is that I admire Steve Job. He is a brilliant man with an acute sense of marketing. He held the ability to break into the handphone market with just a single debut, create such an uproar, and has made iPhone THE handphone people want to be seen with - even before it was officially released!! With his excellent marketing skills he is creating the latest trend rather than bothering himself in creating new handphones constantly. The presentation video of him promoting the iPhone left me with a very big impression of him, it's really that awesome... you can see how he commands attention with his flair of speaking alone. Despite not liking the iPhone, I would with all my heart, encourage everyone to watch the said presentation. (Please head towards your nearest YouTube station haha)
Whoever still wondering who's Steve Job should just go bang his/her head on the wall till their skulls crack. Then please kindly process to wikipedia.org for more information.
You must be thinking I'm crazy. Being so childishly ecstatic over my iPod in one post and ranting about iPhone in the next. Ah well.... I just felt like I needed to vent my frustration on Apple haha.
Thank you, and good night!
