Alvin and the Chipmunk

Current Mood : Sleepy~
Currently listening To: Dethharmonic - Dethlok

Tonight I realized that listening to Alvin and the Chipmunks while completing assignments is very motivational. 8DDDDDDDDD

Although there is only a certain limit as to how long I can take the high pitch chipmunk singing. I remember during Christmas last year I literally drove my family -especially mum- up the wall with their hit song Christmas Don't Be Late looping on the p.c constantly. It was either that, or I would try mimicking the song in that very pitch everywhere I went. I just loved the song's chorus.

So I went poking around the net to find out how exactly were the humanly impossible voices of Alvin, Theodore and Simon recorded.

The Chipmunks' voices were recorded onto audiotape by voice talent talking or singing at half the normal speed. When the tape was played back at double speed, they would sound a full octave higher in pitch, at normal tempo. That was how they did it way back when. Now the same effect can be created digitally and in real time. With the popularity of the show, came the term "chipmunk-voiced" that had entered the American vernacular to describe any artificially high-pitched voice.

Another easier but possibly dangerous method would be to simply inhale helium and start talking. The only problem is you really go crackers XD Hence one cannot perform voice recording sessions optimally I guess? haha.... I like helium voices....singing with helium induced voices makes people's braincells explode one-by-one.

The show is not the pioneer in using such a technique to create artificially high pitched voices, nor is the show the only one utilizing it. Many cartoons and comedies, music videos even uses this technique to further enhance creativity and personality into the respective works. A few common examples includes Daffy Duck, Donald Duck (I really hate Donald's voice cause it really hurts my eardrums with it's splitting high pitch squeelings), the Lonely Song.... I don't remember what's it called anymore...

It went something like : Lonely, I am so lonely, I have nobody.... I'm all on my own~ woo yea~

Kinda like that. yes I have nothing interesting to write anymore DDDDDD8

Ah. I'm sleepy now. Therefore I shall retire this instant. I had such a long day today. Was so sleepy for all my classes, I amazed myself for being able to pull it through right to the end of Student Council's meeting! I have managed to once again procrastinate my work to another day.
